The Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organizing the Interreligious Seminar, within the scientific area of Palliative Care, with the aim of sharing the meaning of suffering/pain/life/death in the context of each religion and strategies for religious intervention/accompaniment in this phase of the clinical trajectory of patients and their families.

Framework

The humanist and integral vision of the human being in general, and in health care in particular, implies the integration of the spiritual dimension and, within this, the religious dimension, in understanding and intervening in the phenomena experienced.

Suffering, which is never just physical, but total, affects all dimensions of the person, including spirituality and religiosity. Knowing the meanings that suffering, pain, life and death have in each of the religions and how they advocate interventions in this area is an ethical and deontological desideratum for a care practice that aims for excellence.

The FCSE-UCP, with a humanist and integral vision of the human being at its core, and consequently of healthcare, is making this seminar, held within the scientific area of palliative care, available to all students and other healthcare professionals.
