On June 22 and 23, the intensive “Scientific Writing” training course took place as part of the Doctoral Program and with financial support from Transform4Europe – Invited Professor Program. The course was aimed at doctoral students in Nursing, and its main objective was to develop advanced skills in scientific writing and academic publishing.
The workshop was led by Professor Fiona Timmins of University College Dublin (Ireland), one of the most renowned international experts in the fields of research, scientific publishing, and advanced training in nursing and health sciences. As Director of the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Systems at University College Dublin, Fiona Timmins also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal *Public Health Nursing*.
With a career marked by extensive scientific and academic activity, Professor Fiona Timmins has published over 270 articles in indexed journals, has vast experience in supervising and evaluating doctoral dissertations, and has a proven track record of international collaboration. She shared with participants key strategies and tools for producing high-quality scientific manuscripts.
er the course of the two-day training session, the students deepened their understanding of the principles of academic writing, the criteria required by international scientific journals, and the challenges inherent in the publication process. Approaches to enhancing the clarity, rigor, and impact of scientific output were also discussed, contributing to the strengthening of the research skills of future doctoral students.
The initiative provided an important opportunity for learning and sharing experiences, reinforcing the Portuguese Catholic University’s commitment to excellence in doctoral education, internationalization, and the promotion of high-quality scientific research.
