Observed on April 23, National Deaf Education Day brings to the forefront of the debate the way in which the educational system responds to the linguistic diversity of this population. In an article by Mara Moita, coordinator of the Master’s Program in Portuguese Sign Language and Deaf Education at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing of the Portuguese Catholic University, it is argued that inclusion begins with language and requires the effective implementation of the bilingual model, which is still far from being fully realized.
