Professor Rita Cordovil will present a paper entitled "The Risk of Not Taking a Risk: Time, Space and Freedom to Play"

Registration here

Line of research: Mind, Brain and Education

Theme: The Risk of Not Taking a Risk: Time, Space and Freedom to Play

Modern lifestyles, characterized by sedentary lifestyles, overprotection and excessive exposure to digital technologies, have restricted children's access to experiences that are fundamental to their development. Many of them are deprived of experiences that were natural for past generations, especially outdoors, where they explored the world in movement, tested their abilities and learned to deal with challenges, thus developing their security and autonomy. This presentation will discuss the transformations in the family, school and social contexts that have reduced the time, space and freedom for play. It will explore good practices and possible ways to promote a more balanced environment, ensuring that children have real opportunities to explore, experiment and grow in a healthy way.
