Professor Paulo Vaz de Carvalho, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing (FCSE) at the Portuguese Catholic University, participated in the international conference NLP Med (Natural Language Processing in Medicine), organized by the Center for Evolution Studies (CLES) at Nicolaus Copernicus University, in Toruń, Poland, where he presented two papers related to research and innovation projects developed in the field of Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) and health.

One of the presentations focused on the three Erasmus+ projects on Vocational Sign Language in the field of health—VSL on Medicine, VSL on Palliative Care, and VSL on Dental Medicine—the latter of which was recently approved. The projects aim to contribute to the development of sign language resources and skills applied to different healthcare settings.

Prof. Paulo Vaz de Carvalho also presented the project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), “The Contemporary Dictionary of LGP: From the App to the Classroom,” dedicated to the development and application of digital resources for Portuguese Sign Language, bridging the gap between research and technology in educational contexts.

As part of this visit, there was also an opportunity to tour the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies (ICNT), a research unit at Nicolaus Copernicus University dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research and equipped with state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure.
