Two decades of excellence: UCP Nursing celebrates 20 years and its 200th doctoral defense

Wednesday, November 26, 2025 - 22:01

The year 2025 marks two dates that will go down in the history of the Portuguese Catholic University: the celebration of 20 years of the Doctorate in Nursing program and the 200th doctoral exam in this program.

The candidate who marked this milestone was Arminda Nunes, who presented and defended her thesis entitled “Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle. Assessment of the Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Effect of an Intervention for Pregnant Women in Situations of Economic Insufficiency.” The work was developed under the guidance of Prof. Alexandrina Cardoso and Prof. Margarida Vieira.

The exam took place on November 24, a date that took on special significance as it coincided with the birthday of the late Prof. Margarida Vieira, a leading figure in the scientific and pedagogical development of nursing, whose vision and dedication continue to inspire the academic community.

Over two decades, the PhD in Nursing has contributed to the advanced training of professionals who today excel in research, teaching, and leadership in health. The 200th defense reinforces the institution's commitment to producing knowledge aimed at improving care and responding to emerging social challenges.
