The Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organizing, within the field of palliative care, an Interfaith Seminar aimed at sharing the meaning of suffering, pain, life, and death within the context of each religion, as well as strategies for religious intervention and support during this phase of the clinical journey of patients and their families.

OVERVIEW

A humanistic and holistic view of the human being in general—and in healthcare in particular—implies the integration of the spiritual dimension, and within that, the religious dimension, into our understanding of and response to the experiences people undergo.

Suffering, which is never merely physical but total, affects all dimensions of the person, including spirituality and religiosity. Understanding the meanings that suffering, pain, life, and death hold in each religion and how these religions advocate for interventions in this domain is an ethical and deontological imperative for a healthcare practice that aims for excellence.

FCSE-UCP, grounded in a humanistic and holistic view of the human being—and consequently of healthcare—offers this seminar, conducted within the scientific field of palliative care, to all students and other healthcare professionals.
