On April 3, the Portuguese Society of Speech Therapy (SPTF) is organizing the webinar “Exploring the impact of shared story reading on children with deafblindness: benefits and challenges”. The event will feature the participation of Professor Mara Moita, from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing (FCSE) and Ana Sofia Lopes, who is studying for a PhD in Cognition, Language and Neuroscience.
The session will cover the shared reading of stories as an essential strategy for language development, focusing on the particularities of children with deafblindness who use hearing technology. There will also be a time for practical application of the strategies discussed and a raffle of children's books among the participants.
Webinar objectives:
- Define Shared Story Reading;
- Explain strategies for Shared Story Reading with children of early intervention age (0-6 years);
- Adapt Shared Story Reading practices to children with deafblindness;
- Practical application of the strategies discussed.
Speakers:
Ana Sofia Lopes - She completed her 1st cycle degree in Speech Therapy at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão and her 2nd cycle degree at the Instituto Politécnico do Porto. She has a Master's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Aveiro. She is studying for a PhD in Cognition, Language and Neurosciences at the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon. She is a Speech Therapist at the Eugénio de Andrade School Group.
Mara Moita - Linguist, PhD in Psycholinguistics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with research in the area of language acquisition in deaf children with cochlear implants and in the linguistics of Portuguese Sign Language.
