Animal Experimentation

3 ECTS / Semester / Inglês

This UC is intended for students to acquire knowledge about the use of animal models in neurosciences and the ethical issues involved.

Theoretical, expository classes will be combined with theoretical-practical classes where debate will be encouraged on the advantages and disadvantages of animal experimentation, where some scientists will be invited to talk about their experimental approaches, and where students will develop systematic literature review projects to analyze the effectiveness of knowledge translation between research with animals and research with humans.

At the end of the semester, students should be familiar with the syllabus, with the debate on animal experimentation, with the systematic review methodology and should have developed skills in experimental design, data collection and
analysis, and in presentation and discussion of results.
