Professor José Luis Pereira is Director of Research at the College of Family Physician of Canada. He is also the Gilchrist Chair and Professor of Palliative Care at Queen's University, Canada and he has academic positions as professor at the University of Ottawa and and McMaster University in Canada. He is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Pallium Canada (www.pallium.ca).

He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers, chapters and manuscripts and is principal author of the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook for health care professionals. Over the years he has served in several leadership roles in regional, provincial and national palliative care-related programs.

He was awarded the Queen Elisabeth Golden and the Diamond Jubilee Medals in 2002 and 2012 for his contributions to Canadians. Over the years he has been visiting professor at Universidade Catolica and has taught many years in the palliative care masters and post-graudate programs.

More recently he has also been a visiting professor at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain and collaborated with the Atlantes Project there.
