UCP’s participation included students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing program, accompanied by the program coordinator and the person in charge of the Catholic University Nursing Center’s “May, Heart Month” project. As part of this collaboration, various health promotion activities were carried out, including screenings and individualized counseling, reinforcing the university’s commitment to community outreach and health literacy. The activities carried out included the assessment of essential parameters, such as blood pressure, weight, BMI, and other indicators relevant to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, aligning with the objectives of the project dedicated to raising awareness about heart health.
On behalf of UCP, the event also featured a Ph.D. student in Cognitive Science, Language, and Neuroscience, who, as one of the Ph.D. program coordinators, helped conduct cognitive screenings and provide education on brain health. This aspect allowed for a more comprehensive approach to the concept of health, integrating not only physical well-being but also the mental and cognitive health of the participants.
The convergence of these fields of knowledge, together with the participation of the Alcoitão School of Health, reinforced the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to promoting healthy aging, highlighting the fundamental role of higher education institutions in connecting with the community and addressing emerging social challenges.
