Professor Sílvia Caldeira, Ph.D., a faculty member at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing (FCSE) and the School of Nursing (Lisbon), received the SIGMA European Award for Nursing Excellence in Education 2026 at a ceremony held during the SIGMA European Conference, which took place in Kuopio, Finland.

The award, presented by Sigma Europe, recognizes the excellence and impact of her career in the field of nursing education, highlighting her contribution to the training of professionals and researchers, as well as her international reputation.

Throughout her academic career, Professor Sílvia Caldeira has played a key role in the education of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. She has been teaching in the bachelor’s program since 2008 and in the master’s and doctoral programs since 2013, having already supervised 31 master’s students and 13 doctoral candidates. Her teaching and research focus on nursing research methodologies, advanced nursing, spirituality in health, and nursing taxonomies and classifications.

Since the 2024–2025 academic year, she has served as director of the Doctoral Program in Nursing and is a member of the FCSE Board of Directors.

The awarding of this prize recognizes the professor’s academic and scientific merit, while also reflecting the FCSE’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation in nursing, thereby enhancing the international visibility of both the School and the University.
